SMACNA Arizona - Featured Contractors Showcase

SMACNA-AZ Contractor: Bel-Aire Mechanical, Inc.
Project Name: A350 Airbus Tail Cone Acoustical Extension
General Contractor: Bel-Aire Mechanical, Inc.
Services Provided: Bel-Aire Mechanical provided the engineering, designed and developed Cad drawings for the construction of a 15-foot and a six-foot tall tail cone stand, along with an all aluminum 28-foot acoustical extension simulating the rear section of the aircraft. The 15-foot stand was constructed to support the tail cone and the acoustical extension at the approximate height of the aircraft on a runway. The six-foot stand will support an additional tail cone for further testing. The acoustical extension featured the creation of a rib structure that would support the outer skin of the aircraft while adapting to meet the contours of the actual aircraft - essentially building the right half of the last 28 feet of the aircraft's fuselage. An alternate material is being used for the tail section of the Airbus, the first one built with something other than metal. This mock-up will be used for acoustical testing in relation to the aircraft's auxiliary power system.
Start/End Dates: January 2010 through April 2010
